Introduction
In a world where electric bike brands sometimes disappear quickly, Cowboy seems to be sticking around for a long time. Their latest offering, the Cruiser, improves on the good choices that Cowboy has made in their previous bikes.
Cruisers share some similarities with van Moff bikes, but a major difference is the removable battery. The Shepherd doesn’t follow VanMoof’s old streamlined philosophy, which is good. The cruiser also comes with more comfortable handlebars for a comfortable and upright ride, which is perfect for cruising around.

Cowboy is now following Apple’s approach, selling only the latest versions of its bikes: cruiser, step-through cruiser, or classic. All cost the same, it’s just a matter of preference. I tested the Cruiser in Edinburgh and found it to be a great ride.
Design and features:
Cowboy’s e-bikes are easy to ride but packed with features accessible through their companion app. The standout feature of the Cruiser is its removable battery that makes recharging a breeze. The bike has higher handlebars and a wider saddle for added comfort. There’s even a stepped model for a more straight fit. A quad-lock fitting point in the center of the handlebar lets you attach your phone for wireless charging and complete connectivity.
Performance:
The cruiser is perfect for urban riding, commuting, or casual use. Its electric-assist gives you a quick start and steady speed without feeling out of control. With excellent disc brakes, stopping is never an issue. Cowboy’s Adaptive Power System adjusts output based on factors such as incline and headwinds, ensuring a smooth ride even in difficult conditions.
Battery and Range:
The cruiser offers a range of 40-80 km, depending on factors such as terrain and power mode. Recharging takes less than three hours, and the removable battery makes replacement easy if needed. While the battery is heavy, it’s manageable compared to lugging around the entire bike.
Software:
The Cowboy app is robust, offering navigation, settings, and security features. Your bike can automatically power on and unlock when you approach your phone. The app also integrates with fitness trackers and has Find My support for added security.
Decision:
The Cowboy Cruiser is a fantastic e-bike that offers both advanced features and simple functionality. Although the price is high, it is worth it for the quality and convenience it provides. With its removable battery and other smart features, the Cruiser sets a high standard for urban e-bikes.
